Milanof-Schock Library

The Milanof-Schock Library in Mount Joy PA serves the residents in Mount Joy and the surrounding areas.

When the generous legacies of Anne Milanof and Clarence Schock inspired creation of a new library servicing all of the Donegal-Mount Joy region, few realized fully the success that was waiting and the challenges of sustaining a new and wide-ranging thirst for library services.

The modern brick Milanof-Schock Library opened in 1999 poised to serve all the residents in the five municipalities comprising the Donegal School District (Mount Joy and Marietta Boroughs, and the townships of East Donegal, Mount Joy, and Rapho).

The Milanof-Schock Library can now be considered the region’s de facto community center as well:

It has become an after-school haven for youth and a life-long learning center for all area residents.
Library programs range from lapsit storytelling for infants to computer instruction for seniors.
The Library also provides the only regional point for free Internet access to those without home online ports.
Many community groups – the Literacy Council, Hospice, Scouts, high school service clubs and Chamber of Commerce to name a few – use library community rooms and grounds for meetings and benefit events.
New immigrants interested in learning how to become good citizens make the Milanof-Schock Library a first stop.
Library reference services aid those in need of specific information in virtually every area of knowledge, whether it is finding data for a school project or locating a social service agency to help a troubled teen.

The Milanof-Schock Library’s dedicated service to its community has earned it local, national and international recognition. In 2006, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Library Journal named us “The Best Small Library in America”.
