Travel Information

Travel Information provides travel information for New Jersey.

511NJ is a free phone and web service that consolidates traffic and transportation information into a one-stop resource for commuters and motorists in the Garden State.  511NJ provides up-to-the-minute traffic conditions and it's available seven days a week, 365 days a year.

In 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) designated 511 as the national travel information telephone number.  As of October 31, 2009 there were forty-one 511 services available to the traveling public operating in 35 states, two Canadian provinces and one Canadian territory.  This translates into 511 services being available to over 166 million Americans and almost 7 million Canadians.

Traffic and travel information offered on the 511NJ web site and telephone phone service is managed by a partnership of public agencies led by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, the South Jersey Transportation Authority, the New Jersey State Police, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission and the Delaware River Port Authority.

Additional data is provided by traffic monitoring devices such as traffic cameras and travel time sensors. Local law enforcement agencies, fire departments and emergency medical technicians also contribute information for the 511NJ system.

511NJ provides motorists information about accidents, incidents, and unusual delays on New Jersey Interstate and State highways, the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, the Atlantic City Expressway as well as all bridge and tunnel crossings. It offers real time traffic and travel information seven days a week, 365 days a year. In addition, 511NJ broadcasts Amber alerts and other emergency messages.

511NJ greatly benefits motorists and commuters. By using any of the 511NJ resources, motorists can make informed decisions about planning trips, alternate routes and departure times. This improves individual drivers' trips and helps reduce congestion and improve safety on state highways.

511NJ.org  also provides a Personalized Traffic Alert Service, My 511NJ, to help you better navigate New Jersey's highways.   "My 511NJ "is a free subscription based service that will send the same information you will find on the 511NJ phone system as well as the 511NJ.org website.  This information is delivered right to a subscribers' cell phone, Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) or e-mail accounts

511NJ.org, with the support of its partner agencies, will continue to update and enhance real-time traffic and transit information.  Check back often as these services come on-line.
