Union Canal Tour

Experience a Unique opportunity to kayak through the Union Canal Tunnel, the oldest transportation tunnel in the United States. The tunnel was completed in 1827 and operated until 1855. The Union Canal Tunnel was part of the Union Canal, which ran from Reading, PA to Middletown in Dauphin County.

Cocoa Kayaks has the honor of being given special permission for access on the water. Join them for a calm paddle and a history lesson, as a local historian shares the history and knowledge of the canal and surrounding area. Proceeds from this tour are donated to the Lebanon County Historical Society.

The whole paddle is 1.25 miles. The tunnel is 700+ feet.  Since this is a closed waterway, the water is flat with no current.   Cocoa Kayaks will have a local historian on water sharing the history of the Union Canal Tunnel which you will get to paddle through twice.  Trips usually last 1.5 hours depending on the Q & A session.

Solo and Bring your Own Kayak rentals options are available. Paddling Experience is Required! A percentage of the proceeds benefit Lebanon Valley Historic Society.
