Ward Elementary School, located in the Varina District, is named for a noteworthy citizen and educator in Varina, Henry D. Ward. Mr. Ward was principal of Baker Elementary for 24 years. Ward Elementary School chose the colt as their mascot because Mr. Ward owned and loved horses. It serves students in kindergarten through fifth grade.
